Hey Ya'll,
Happy Earth Day!  Did you know that it's Gaby's Birthday at Gaby Creates?  Gaby was gracious enough to invite us to celebrate with her during her Blog Hop!

In celebration of both Earth Day and Gaby's Birthday, I made a birthday card which is quite different than what I normally do.  The card stock for the base and all cuts are made with recycled card stock.  The background paper for the base mat is actually white hand made paper what is inked with a couple of different shades of blue.  The tree and deer are from Cindy Loo and the sentiment is from Birthday Cakes.  I used markers to freehand the sun and greenery on the ground.  The lavendar on the tree is actually a fiber that I found at our LSS made from recycled fibers.  It is attached the same way you would glitter.
I used glossy effects on the sentiment and the eye of the deer to make them stand out.  Like I said, this was something out of the ordinary for us, but it was so much fun trying to figure it out that we are going to try lots and lots more cards using recycled materials.  It certainly was challenging, but very interesting and fun.  I will also share a tutorial soon on how to make your own hand made paper.  If you can't wait for me to get things together, there are some great YouTube videos on the topic that I learned how to do it from.  Let's just say, don't throw away the Cricut Scraps.  They are perfect for making your own papers!  Hee! Hee!

So... Back to the hop.  If you are just getting started, you can start at the beginning by going to Gaby's Blog.  If you are passing through, your next stop is Audrey Frelix' Amazing Blog!  If you get lost at any point along the way, below is a list of everyone celebrating with us today!  Make sure you leave a comment on each participating blog to be eligible for the incredible Birthday Blog Candy that's provided.

  37. You did extraordinary with your out of the ordinary creation!!! You are so super talented. And Jill, I too only do counted cross stitch, I do not like the printed kind at all. For my picture, I scanned the picture and converted it with a cross stitch program and than counted cross stitched... I have also created my daugther's face when she was 5 and am 3/4 done with one of my grand baby's face, but my eye sight is not the same, so I picked up papercrafting.... I have to finish it! because I have to start my second grand baby's face or I will never hear the end of it! Thank you so much for participating in my celebrations and being my bloggie friends!!! Hugs, Gaby
